Morning or afternoon fishing charter: which is better?
Early start or a relaxed afternoon? Here is which charters leave Marina Pez Vela at 6:00, 7:00 or 1:00 PM, when you are back at the dock, and how to fit fishing around the rest of your holiday.
Updated October 2026
Quick answer
All four charters have a morning departure, but only the two inshore trips also leave at 1:00 PM. Choose the morning for offshore fishing or a free afternoon; choose the 1:00 PM Half-Day Inshore if you want no early alarm, a morning in the park first, or to be back around sunset. The price is the same either way.
Departure and return times
Return times follow each charter's length, so they are approximate and can change with the day's conditions.
When the morning is the better choice
A morning trip puts the fishing first and leaves the rest of the day open.
- You want to fish offshore: both blue-water trips leave only at 7:00 AM
- You want the afternoon free for the beach, the pool or a nap
- You prefer to be on the water in the cooler early hours
- You have dinner plans or a transfer later in the day
When the afternoon is the better choice
The 1:00 PM departure suits travelers who would rather not set an alarm. It is available on the Half-Day Inshore and the 3/4-Day Inshore.
- You arrive in Quepos that morning, or simply want to sleep in
- You want to see Manuel Antonio National Park in the morning first
- On the half day you are back between 5:00 and 6:00 PM, close to sunset
- The 3/4-Day Inshore afternoon trip is long: plan for a return around 7:00 to 8:00 PM
Three ways to plan the day
Most guests fit fishing into a beach holiday in one of these ways.
- 6:00 AM
Fish first, beach after
Half-Day Inshore at 6:00 AM, back before lunch, with the whole afternoon free.
- 1:00 PM
Park first, fish after
Manuel Antonio National Park in the morning, then the Half-Day Inshore at 1:00 PM, back around sunset.
- 7:00 AM
A full blue-water day
Full-Day Offshore at 7:00 AM, back mid-afternoon, with time left for an early dinner in Quepos.
Does the time change the price?
No. Morning and afternoon departures cost the same: $950 per boat for the Half-Day Inshore and $1,150 for the 3/4-Day Inshore, for up to six anglers. Pick the time that fits your plans and book it directly.
